heavy heart
my heart is heavy tonight. i'm 'homesick' for a place that isn't my home anymore. i miss my family and it broke my heart tonight when during bedtime prayers when M was reciting off his list of people he was thankful for, i realized that it contained none of my family back home in kentucky. no sissy, or steph, or michael, and i wonder if mammaw and pappaw repeated a couple of times was for both sets of grandparents or if he just was carried away. i wanna pretend that it was for the former.

I came here to check out your WFMW, but I wanted to let you know that I can completely relate to your story. We live across the country from my family too, and my heart is always torn between enjoying my life here and missing the people I love so much. On one hand, I love that my kids are happy where we live, but on the other hand, I never want them to forget where we came from either.
I know it is hard sometimes to be away from home. I am away from home 6,000 miles...If my heart gets heavy, I just turn to Him and He reminds me that earth is really not my permanent home anyway.
Praying for you that your heart might get lighter.
I understand. Jake gets to spend time daily with Donnie's parents and gets to see mine once a month if he's lucky. We only live an hour and a half away, but it's hard. I want him to know my family too. I try to show Jake pictures of family he doesn't see a lot to familarize him so he's comfortable when we visit and so he's aware of everyone in the family.
We went from living near one family to none, and it is hard for us too. My youngest wasn't knowing people's names; so I started showing him pictures more often. Now when he sees a relative after many months, he feels warmed to them and doesn't take long to get used to them. Before, he would cry when they came to visit. He's 2. Another thing we do is tell stories about the family, and the gifts we have from grandparents. So when they visit, the boys can know that person gave them the special toy. I would like to get the relatives on a video reading stories too. That would be a great idea!
