Gods Big Backyard!

Night 1 of VBS down. 4 to go. Tonight the turn out (23 kids)was ok, but as word spreads I know that numbers will go up. Our church is in the south end ghetto of Cbus, and word is the best spreader of fun things for kids around here...that and the fact that there are snacks and all is FREE.

If ya know us, you have undoubtidly heard of our 'struggle' in being able to *gasp* use a projecter during worship on Sundays , for the past 3 years as well, there has been,um, resistance in using the actually VBS songs that come with the program (the old classics, Father Abraham, the BIBLE,etc... where considered 'hip')...put it this way, the preachers wife refused to help us this year, but God lead someone to step up and volunteer in her place. She decided that she likes the idea of us using the music AND the projector, and let me tell you-it added a demension that I haven't seen out of our kids in a loooongg time. They weren't the normal bumps on the log. They were dancing, and doing motions, and SINGING!!!

Here's my dilema. It's one of many, but is really really bothering me. One of my old regulars came tonight, and announced to me that she was baptized today at a differant church which she has been going to. We have a tradition that we give all new believers a new Bible after their Baptism. I happily told our preacher about her baptism, and he was actually disappointed that she was baptized at a church of a very similar denomination. I asked him if he wanted to give her a Bible (one I might add, the church did not pay for, we did-I say this not to glorify us, but to tell why I'm upset by his response), and he responded NO the proceeded to ask if she is a regular member at our church!! Almost all of our kids come from non-churched homes, and often they are very needy. How can a preacher of all people deny a child a Bible? HOW?!? I'm very upset by this, and I really am contemplating how I should handle it. Especially if he has a problem if someone was baptized in *the very similar denomination* church, because if that is the case, he's really going to have a problem with me since I was baptized in that same denomination. Do you think that I'm overreacting, or do you think my point and my hurt is valid?

We are doing the same VBS this week as well. We started tonight. I'm teaching the 1st and 2nd graders. I had 11 tonight. It's gonna be a long week.

I think the preacher's response was not appropriate. If I was financially able, I would purchase the girl a Bible myself and give it to her. She definitely needs a Bible!

We did Power Lab this year. VBS is awesome! I' with you, I think the child should get a Bible if they don't have one!
